The importance of rotational weighted exercises for the core is high. I stopped doing sit-ups and crunches etc. a long time ago and started to use kettlebells to strengthen my core. I do these exercises along with my leg day. This evening I did squats, lunges, offset farmer walks, single-arm carries, leg extensions, kettlebell wood chops, overhead presses, lu raises, and tricep push-downs. Solid!
